ANWHA's E-drive Solutions: Upgrading from Traditional Line to Cell-Based Assembly

(Summary description)

Information

ANWHA recently planned and delivered a cell-based intelligent assembly line for a leading automotive component manufacturer, which has now entered mass production. Designed around the cell-based assembly concept, the line has a planned annual capacity of 230,000 units. It comprises five main process cells: thermal sleeve fitting, housing assembly, shaft system assembly, final assembly, and testing. This setup achieves comprehensive process coverage from pressing and tightening to measurement and testing.

Cell-Based Assembly Enables Flexible Expansion and Multi-Model Compatibility

The production line follows a core philosophy of "decoupled processes, reconfigurable lines, adaptive capacity, value-added data, evolutionary systems, and scalable models." It is divided into five relatively independent assembly cells. Each cell possesses complete process capability and can operate collaboratively or be adjusted flexibly. This structure allows the line to be compatible with six dual-motor models and one single-motor model. Expansion interfaces are reserved in the layout, facilitating the future introduction of new products and significantly reducing the impact of subsequent modifications on production.

Increased Automation Rate and Innovative Data Flow Transmission

The overall automation rate of the line has been increased to 75%, significantly reducing manual workstations and dependence on skilled operators. Regarding data transmission, the traditional RFID method has been replaced with a soft data flow transmission technology. This achieves material and process parameter tracking through real-time communication between systems, which not only reduces hardware investment and maintenance costs but also improves the real-time performance of data transfer.

Benefit Enhancement: A Win-Win for Flexible Production and Stable Quality

The flexibility brought by the cell-based structure enables the production line to maintain efficient operation even when handling multi-variety, small-batch orders. Changeover times are greatly reduced, and production disruptions are minimized, helping enterprises respond quickly to market changes. Meanwhile, standardized, modular process units contribute to stable quality control and ensure product consistency.

Against the backdrop of the manufacturing industry's transition towards intelligence and flexibility, cell-based manufacturing provides a practical and scalable solution. It is applicable not only to E-drive assembly but can also be extended to the production of core components such as batteries and motors, helping enterprises build a manufacturing system fit for future competition. Through process decoupling, line reconfiguration, and data integration, manufacturing systems will no longer be a bottleneck to product innovation but will become a core pillar supporting enterprises in improving quality, increasing efficiency, and reducing costs.
